LEED Points and Green Building

EnergySeal makes it easier and more affordable for architects, engineers, and building owners and managers to incorporate sustainability into new or existing commercial and institutional buildings. Getting your building LEED-certified is within reach when using products that contribute to the achievement of LEED credits. Our eco-friendly insulation systems contribute to LEED points in four out of the six categories for new construction including: Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Innovation & Design Process.

Reducing energy consumption and related carbon emissions is the most important criteria within the USGBC LEED rating systems. Under LEED energy reduction earns the most points. Our system combines high performance with responsible materials; therefore our system is able to contribute to several other LEED categories. We have provided spray systems for Commercial and Residential LEED projects and have given builders and architects a cost-effective path towards LEED status.

Our Hybrid Insulation Helps Achieve the Following Credits:

LEED-NC

New Commercial and Major Renovation Projects

ENERGY & ATMOSPHERE
Optimize Energy Performance
EA-1 (1-10 points)

With EnergySeal it is easy to obtain a high efficiency building that exceeds ASHRAE 90.1-1999.

MATERIALS & RESOURCES
Construction Waste Management
MR-2.1 (1 point) Divert 50% From Landfill.
MR-2.2 (1 point in addition) Divert 75% From Landfill.

Our foam is delivered in: 974 lb steel or plastic barrels, which are recyclable. Our spray foam follows any shape of the building providing high performance with minimal insulation waste. The window protection can be re-used by the spray foam contractor and the masonry contractor. Our cellulose insulation is vacuumed and recycled back into the system during the installation project creating virtually no waste.

Recycled Content
MR-4.1 (1 point) 10%
Our natural cellulose insulation is 85% post consumer recycled newsprint.
Mr-4.2 (1 point) 20%
Our natural cellulose insulation is 85% post consumer recycled newsprint.

Regional Material
MR-5.1 (1 point)
10% Extracted and Manufactured Regionally
MR-5.2 (1 point in addition)
20% Extracted and Manufactured Regionally
Use a minimum of 10% or 20% of building materials or products within 500 miles of the project site or 1,500 miles when shipped by rail or water.

Our foam system is manufactured onsite and our cellulose and duo baffle system is manufactured within 500 miles of McCall.

INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
Low-Emitting Materials: Adhesives & Sealants
EQ-4.1 (1 point)
Reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, potentially irritating and/or harmful to the comfort and well being of installers and occupants

Hybrid System content: 0% FORMALDEHYDE, 0% CFC, 0% HCFC, 0% HFC, 0% HYDROCARBONS, 0% PENTA BDE

Thermal Comfort
EQ-7.1 (1 point)
Provide a thermally comfortable environment that supports the productivity and well being of building occupants. EnergySeal insulates and air seals the building envelope in one step.

INNOVATION & DESIGN PROCESS
Innovation in Design
ID-1 (1 to 4 points)
Design provides exceptional performance above the requirements set by LEED Green Building Rating System and/or Innovative performance.

Our spray foam is a two component, spray-applied, semi-rigid polyurethane foam system that contains more than 20% renewable agricultural based materials (vegetable oils). This product is a fully water blown system having a low in-place density which can contribute significantly to the energy efficiency of the building. The application of our spray foam insulation offers a substantial reduction of air infiltration and improved integrity of the air tightness allowing for more accurate sizing of the HVAC, which is generally smaller in tonnage.

LEED-H (Homes)

ID-1.2 Integrated Project Team
EnergySeal will contribute to providing an energy efficient and healthy home. EnergySeal will play be a valuable member of the project team. Our expertise can provide guidance for insulation levels to meet code compliance, provide recommendations sustainable and high performance building products and ventilation discussions. ID-1.4 Design Charrette

Using EnergySeal will impact the design of the home's HVAC systems. EnergySeal working with the project team can help determine the best insulation application to meet the projects goals. Discussions concerning insulation R-values and hot roof applications can reduce the home's HVAC sizing. These discussion can lead to an offsetting of costs for using EnergySeal with and a potential for reducing heating and cooling costs by more than 50%.

ID 2.1 Durability Planning

EnergySeal can contribute to the durability measures for:

Air Infiltration- EnergySeal's insulation systems exceed ASTM E 283 @ 75 Pa air leakage rates resulting in a home with significantly reduced air leakage.

Interstitial Condensation- EnergySeal insulation systems do not promote deterioration of the existing roof or wall sheathing because it does not allow condensation between the insulation and the sheathing.

Heat Loss- Our R-value per inch, and performs far above labeled R-values

EA 1 Optimize Energy Performance (1 to 34 point-Potential)

Note the Energy and Atmosphere (EA) Category can receive points using either the Performance path for Energy Star homes or the Prescriptive Path.

Performance path: EnergySeal can improve the energy efficiency and HERS score as follows:

Since our seamless insulation system eliminates voids or compressions in wall cavities, it receives the HERS Grade I installation quality rating.
Hot roof applications significantly reduce the load on HVAC equipment when placed in the attics. Smaller/right sized equipment improves the energy efficiency of the home.
Hot roof applications, placing all of the HVAC inside conditioned spaced, means there will be no duct leakage to the outdoors.

Prescriptive Path:

EA 2.2 Enhanced Insulation (2 Points)
EA 3.3 Minimal Envelope Leakage (3 Points)
EA 5.3 Minimal Distribution Losses (3 Points)
MR 2.2 Environmentally Preferable Products (1 Point)
MR 3.2 Construction Waste Reduction (3 Points)
EQ 10.2 Minimize Pollutants from Garage (2 Points)
